We work closely with employers in the Gas industry to develop standards, training programmes and assessment.
Some examples of schemes and programmes we have in the Gas industry are:
- Safe Control of Operations (GB)
- Safety Health and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) Cross-Country Pipelines
- Safety Health and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) Gas
- Gas Competency and Capability Referencing Scheme
- Group Competence Scheme
- Safe Control of Operations (Northern Ireland)
- Smart Metering Referencing Scheme
More schemes and programme information can be found through our schemes search.
Endorsed Training Programmes
We also offer endorsement of your own training programmes for the Gas industry through our Endorsed Training Programme. You have the freedom to develop training programmes that meet your own needs as well as the specific needs of your customers. Being endorsed by us provides you with the recognition that you, and your training programme, have met all of our quality assurance criteria.
Your training programme must map to standards. These may be recognised industry standards or ones you have created yourself, with or without an employer. We will review these as part of our endorsement process as well as your resources, delivery plans and quality assurance processes.

We work with employers, stakeholders and regulators in the Gas industry – and sometimes across the whole industry – to develop schemes and programmes that are tailored to specific requirements. These requirements include training programmes, assessment services, quality assurance services and also the development of training or industry standards.
Energy & Utility Skills is a ‘Recogniser of Training’ for IGEM/IG/1
All training programmes and assessment in downstream gas work must comply with IGEM/IG/1 ‘Standards of Training in Gas Work’ and be recognised by an IGEM accredited ‘Recogniser of Training’.
If you have a gas training programme that falls into this category, then our years of experience working with employers and training providers in the gas industry means we’re uniquely placed to offer support, advice and guidance throughout the recognition process and beyond.
For more information or to find out about seeking approval or the IGEM/IG/1 standard, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
