Smart Metering

What We Do

On behalf of the National Skills Academy for Power (NSAP), Energy & Utility Skills works with energy suppliers and meter operators from across the gas and power industries on training standards and training programmes for Smart Metering installers.

It is a requirement of the Ofgem approved SMICoP (Smart Metering Installation Code of Practice) that Meter Operators use only Smart Meter workers who have received training from an NSAP accredited provider (or equivalent) to install Smart Meters (on first installation).

The scheme’s specification is monitored and maintained by the Net Zero Technology Skills Group (NZTSG) which is an Energy & Utility Skills network group (the group also  works closely with the Department for Business Energu and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). NZTSG  is made up of representatives from major energy suppliers, meter operators and their contractors.

All Smart Meter installers who have successfully completed an NSAP approved training programme from an NSAP approved provider are eligible for an EUSR registration. Registration is valid for three years.

Our Smart Metering portfolio includes:

Bespoke Programme

If you would like to get your own Smart Metering training programme approved by NSAP, the first step is to become an NSAP approved provider.
