NCO (Water) Trainee

Overview

There are two routes for registration as a Network Construction Operations (Water) – NCO (Water) – Trainee depending on experience of the sector.

Trainee (Probationary)

Trainee (Probationary) registration is intended for individuals new to the water industry. It enables them to undergo training and work with experienced staff to build up the portfolio of evidence required for the Level 1 qualification.

A Trainee (Probationary) is expected to work towards and achieve the relevant NCO (Water) qualification at Level 1.  In certain circumstances, it may be appropriate for a trainee to work directly towards a Level 2 qualification for Service/ Mains Layer or undertake an appropriate Apprenticeship for Service/Mains Layer. They should be registered with an awarding body for the Level 1 (or Level 2 qualification, or the apprenticeship), within 3 months of their Trainee registration on EUSR. If an individual is not registered within this time, EUSR may remove their registration at the request of LRQA.

Trainee (Probationary) registration on EUSR is for a period of 30 months and is non-renewable.

Trainee (Experienced Worker)

Trainee (Experienced Worker) registration is intended for individuals who are experienced in the installation of utility assets but have not yet achieved the relevant qualification or apprenticeship. They are expected to achieve the relevant qualification or apprenticeship before their registration as a Trainee (Experienced Worker) expires.

A Trainee (Experienced Worker) must be registered with an awarding body for Level 1 (or level 2 qualification or apprenticeship), within 3 months of their Trainee registration on EUSR. If an individual is not registered within this time, EUSR may remove their registration at the request of LRQA.

Suitably experienced individuals may progress to the Level 2 without undertaking the Level 1 qualification.

Trainee (Experienced Worker) registration on EUSR is for a period of 30 months until the 30th April 2025. After this date the registration period will be 12 months and is non-renewable.

Registration Pre-requisite

An individual registered as a Trainee (Probationary) or Trainee (Experienced Worker) must have EUSR registration for both National Water Hygiene and Safety, Health & Environmental Awareness (SHEA) Water as a pre-requisite.
