SGN strengthens workforce development and site safety with EUSR CSCS Apprentice Cards

EUSR is pleased to announce that SGN has successfully registered all its apprentices for the newly introduced EUSR CSCS Apprentice Card. This milestone highlights SGN’s commitment to workforce development and ensuring its apprentices have the necessary credentials to access construction sites for utilities work.

EUSR CSCS cards are an essential tool that confirms individuals working on construction sites are qualified and trained for their job roles, and promotes a strong safety culture, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.

The EUSR CSCS Apprentice Card, which is issued virtually and free of charge, provides apprentices with essential construction site access while they undertake a recognised apprenticeship programme. The card is valid for four years and six months, and apprentices must hold an in-date EUSR Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) registration or have passed the CITB Health & Safety Test.

When an apprentice completes their qualification, they can apply for an EUSR CSCS Gold or Blue Skilled Worker Card, ensuring they can continue to access construction sites and carry out their job role.

SGN’s achievement in registering 100% of its apprentices underscores the organisation’s dedication to training its workforce, maintaining high industry standards, and fostering a safe working environment across construction sites.

On registering all of it’s apprentices SGN commented, “Ensuring 100% of our apprentices are registered for the EUSR CSCS Apprentice Card reinforces our commitment to workforce development and site safety. The apprenticeship, along with the EUSR CSCS card, provides tangible proof of an apprentice’s progress towards a qualification, competence, and compliance with safety regulations. It also lays the foundation for further certifications, opening doors to stable employment and long-term career growth in the energy and utilities sector. We encourage other employers to adopt this approach, as it strengthens industry standards, promotes safer working environments, and highlights apprenticeships as a credible route to a rewarding, lifelong career.”

About CSCS and the EUSR Apprentice Card

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) plays a crucial role in ensuring that those working on construction sites are appropriately trained and qualified.

CSCS cards are widely recognised across the industry and demonstrate an individual’s ability to work safely and competently in their role.

EUSR is the CSCS Alliance Partner for all utilities work carried out on a construction site, which includes all ‘upstream’ work in the gas, power, water, telecommunications, drainage and sewers and waste management industries.

SGN’s commitment to registering all its apprentices highlights the importance of structured training and certification in supporting a highly skilled and safety-conscious workforce within the energy and utilities sector.
