Coronavirus Guidance (updated 19/03/2020)
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, senior management at National Grid have made a number of decisions regarding contractor training and authorisations.
All Contractor authorisation training at Eakring and the off-site training pods will be suspended for an initial period of three months, starting on Monday 23 March 2020.
All courses booked from Monday 23 March 2020 will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund. The online booking system will not be available during this period.
The following changes are being implemented for Contractor Person, Competent Person and Authorised Person authorisations:
- For individuals with an in date Person authorisation and an in date BESC AME registration, the Person Renewal e-learning course will remain the standard process to follow.
- Any first time Person and Competent Person training at Eakring has been suspended for an initial period of three months.
- For those who require a Competent Person or Authorised Person renewal training at Eakring or a Coaching Pod, your current authorisations expiring before 1 June 2020 will be extended for three months. The expectation is that renewal training will be undertaken as soon as possible once business as usual is resumed.
- If there is a system critical reason for a new resource to be onsite without the relevant authorisation, under exceptional circumstances there are emergency measures under NSI30 which could be enacted – these are for critical access only.
If your current Competent Person or Authorised Person authorisation expires before 1 June 2020, your authorisation will be extended by three months from the date of expiry. For example, if your current authorisation expires on 20 March 2020, it will be extended 19 June 2020.
National Grid will continue to monitor the situation throughout this period.

Guidance for Booking
How much will it cost?
The product list shows the current costs for training which must be paid in advance of the training event.
Which course do I need?
The product list identifies all of the current courses on offer and the relevant delivery method.
When do the courses run?
The course calendar shows dates and venues for all of the relevant Competent Person and Authorised Person e-Learning products and courses.
None of the classroom based training, with the exception of Authorised Person Basic, has open course dates. You will need to propose a preferred date for this training and we will endeavour to match this with trainer availability.
Where do the courses run?
Training and assessment is carried out at National Grid’s Training Centres.
Please also be aware that only Competent Person and Authorised Person training will use the PC coaches. All Person training and assessment will be face-to-face and delivered at Eakring, Nottinghamshire.
How do I book?
You must read the pre-requisite requirements as described in NSI30 and booking conditions before completing a booking form.
Within 2 working days you will receive an acknowledgement of the booking, if the date requested is still available. Otherwise one of the team with contact you to discuss your requirements.
