COVID-19 Guidance Update – 07/05/2020

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, senior management at National Grid have made a number of decisions regarding contractor training and authorisations.

All Contractor authorisation training at Eakring and the off-site training pods was suspended for an initial period of three months, starting on Monday 23 March 2020. 

This has now been extended for a further 3 months until 1 September 2020.

The following changes are being implemented for Contractor Person, Competent Person and Authorised Person authorisations:

  • For individuals with an in date Person authorisation and an in date BESC AME registration, the Person Renewal e-learning course will remain the standard process to follow.
  • Any first time Person and Competent Person training at Eakring has been suspended until further notice.
  • For those who require a Competent Person or Authorised Person renewal training at Eakring or a Coaching Pod, your current authorisations expiring before 1 September 2020 will be extended, see further details below.  The expectation is that renewal training will be undertaken as soon as possible once business as usual is resumed.

If your current Competent Person or Authorised Person authorisation expiry date was between 20 March 2020 and 1 June 2020, your authorisation will now be extended by six months from the date of expiry.  For example, if your current authorisation expires on 20 March 2020, it will be extended 19 September 2020. 

If your current Competent Person or Authorised Person authorisation expiry date was between 1 June 2020 and 1 September 2020, your authorisation will be extended by three months from the date of expiry.  For example, if your current authorisation expires on 10 June 2020, it will be extended 9 September 2020. 

National Grid will continue to monitor the situation throughout this period.
