Water

Within the UK water is supplied by 26 companies. Some of these operate water distribution and sewerage whereas others only deal with potable water. Maintaining the standards of water is critical to national health and water companies employ a variety of methods to ensure this is always maintained. The National Water Hygiene scheme has been facilitated by Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills) to provide a nationally recognised level of hygiene awareness training and assessment across the UK water companies.

Based on the example set by the gas industry in registration of health, safety and environmental awareness issues the water networks asked for a passport course that would meet Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines. Initially developed as the Water Network Safety Passport (WNSP) this has since been replaced with an updated and fully CSCS affiliated version entitled Utility SHEA (Water).
