Waste

Unlike the other utilities sectors the waste management industry has no history of skills registration or statutory requirements.

Following on from similar registration schemes across the utilities sector the Safety, Health & Environmental Awareness (SHEA) in Waste Management was launched in autumn 2009. The scheme is designed to raise basic awareness about health & safety for anyone working within the waste sector. The scheme is also affiliated with the CSCS scheme for occasions where waste management is required on construction sites

StreetSafe Sam

In addition to the SHEA (Waste Management) registration Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills) have worked with the waste management industry to produce a series of free interactive CDs for companies and authorities engaged in waste management. The "A Day in the Life of StreetSafe Sam" series are designed to raise awareness of potential hazards.
