Electricity
Skills registrations within the electricity industry were traditionally held by the electricity network owner. Privatisation lead to problems for contracted workers who found themselves moving between asset owners and consequently having to repeat training.
The Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) assists in correcting this problem by providing a nationally recognised registration of basic skills and awareness regarding health and safety while entering, exiting or working on an electricity site.
Recently, National Grid has started the process of storing their Person and Competent Person training records on the EUSR. This benefits both National Grid and their employers by allowing operatives registrations to be stored in one easily accessible location.
EUSR schemes within the electricity transmission and distribution industries now provide a clear registration of operatives skills and awareness, with an internet accessible database to verify registrations quickly and easily. At the start of 2009 approximately 15000 electricity transmission and distribution operatives were registered although this number is expected to increase rapidly during 2009.
