Network Construction Operations (Gas)

Re-Registration of Gas Network Operations

For those who first achieved the qualification for Gas Network Operatives (GNO), the five year registrations on the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) database are beginning to expire. It has now been agreed, following consultation with the major network asset owners, that an employer declaration will be the required route for operatives to re-register their existing GNO categories on EUSR.

Pipe jointingThis employer declaration route is also open to individuals who hold existing qualifications accredited by an independent body, such as City & Guilds.

Examples of accepted National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are:

  • Gas Network Engineering (GNE) NVQ Level 3
  • Gas Distribution Craftsman NVQ Level 3

At the same time, changes have been made to the name of the existing registration categories and they have been re-named under the general heading of Network Construction Operations (Gas) or NCO(G). This mirrors the current titles used within industry and will help external agencies to identify the synergies across utilities. The list of titles are:

To Re-Register on EUSR you must use the following paperwork and administrative guidelines:

Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills) will be increasing the range of registration categories available for both network construction and maintenance. Once the competence standards are published for these new categories it will be possible to map existing skills and knowledge. Experienced workers who are able to demonstrate that they already meet the standard will be able to register following employer validation of their evidence.

The new category titles and Re-Registration are effective from 1 July 2008. Fees for Re-Registration are as follows and include any additional categories added.
