Cross Country Pipelines Health and Safety Passport

Transition Course Content

This course is only available to trainees holding a valid Utility SHEA (Gas) that features the CSCS hologram.
The course content and delivery specification is determined through consultation with the employers involved in the work activity, and is produced and implemented by Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills) on the industry's behalf. The content is reviewed periodically and consists of four modules, All modules must be completed. The course may only be delivered by trainers approved and licensed by EU Skills.

The course will be delivered through the context of the cross country pipeline industry.

Module 1

Transition Module

Demonstrate an awareness of the environmental aspects and legislation as covered in ISO 14001 relating to:

  1. Waste Management
  2. Water Courses
  3. Wildlife and Habitat
  4. Pollution Control
  5. Archaeology

State the benefits of proper environmental controls incorporated into the Environment Management Plan.
Demonstrate broad knowledge of LOLER legislation.
State good practice when working near lifting and pipelining operations.
State the rules that apply to personal safety around excavations and in confined spaces.
Demonstrate broad understanding of excavation construction, rules for excavation protection and the handling of spoil.

Module 2

Welding and Radiography

Recognise the hazards and risks associated with welding and radiography.
Demonstrate the precautions to be taken to prevent the risk of injury and ill health from welding and radiography.
State the legal duties applicable to the operation of grinders and abrasive wheels.
State the PPE requirements for welding activities
State the legislation that governs radiography and the site rules when operating.

Module 3

Avoidance of Overhead and Underground Services

State good practice in working near overhead electrical lines.
State the rules applicable to underground service identification
Recognise the hazards and risks of working near underground services.
State the procedures applicable to the reporting of damage to overhead / underground services.
State the actions to be taken in an emergency.

Module 4

Traffic Management

State the principles applied to traffic management.

  1. Recognise limitations on access to the spread as stated on the Traffic Management Plan.
  2. State good practice for driving on the spread.
  3. Identify the risks and hazards of vehicular movements on and around pipeline operations.
