Basic Electrical Safety Competence

Become An Assessor

Basic Electrical Safety Competence (BESC) assessments may only be carried out by appropriately qualified and endorsed assessors. The register will specify which standards the individual assessors and internal verifiers are permitted to deliver. The accredited centre will maintain a register of qualified assessors and internal verifiers. The external verifier will confirm the competence of the centre's assessors and internal verifiers for each of the BESC standards by initially reviewing CVs and, if further details are required, conducting informal interviews.

The scheme requires that all internal verifiers and assessors are qualified to ENTO standards.

Internal VerifiersV1 - Conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process (if an individual holds the D34 qualification then he/she is not required to achieve the ENTO unit V1 to carry out this role).
AssessorsA2 - Assess candidates' performance through observation (if an individual holds the D32 qualification then he/she is not required to achieve the ENTO unit A2 to carry out this role).

External verifiers are appointed and assigned to a centre by EU Skills.

Assessors and internal verifiers working towards their qualifications can carry out assessment and verification respectively provided their decisions are checked, authenticated and countersigned by other members of the centre staff who hold the relevant qualification.

Assessors and internal verifiers who have their competence confirmed by the external verifier are automatically entitled to become registered under the BESC scheme.
